This double-disc helping of free and glorious noise from Aotearoa's wildest duo is the latest offering from the weird and wonderful stable of label CocoMuse, which brought us the likes of Negative Nancies, OV Pain, and Francisca Griffin. The cacophonic pairing of saxophonist, violinist, and vocalist Ro Rushton-Green with drummer Gabriel Griffin, Sewage recorded these two sessions at Ōtepoti's None Gallery back in 2017. - Flying Out
Ronnie found Sewage while on a mission for Harrison, delivering a Revox B77 to Jerome Noetinger at the 2017 Lines of Flight - where Sewage happened to play on the opening night. As I recall, he recalls 'Their 16 min set found the offramp with a Fight Club like accuracy and commitment that had me sold down the sewage pipe from that moment on. Total masters!’ Subsequently, we were all sold down that pipe - their professionalism, connection, and sculpting skills outstrip many more seasoned a loon. As is the CMR protocol, things happen slowly, if at all. But, nearly 7 years after a rant between Ronnie and Gab after the LoF opening gig, we have it - 2 flat circles of black wax - A Forbes Williams produced hi-fi document of the late 2017 None days of Sewage. And it blisters.
Sewage's heteroclitical bedlam bop is both vicious and beautiful. Like Odysseus, it's best to strap yourself to the ship's mast and allow their primitive siren call to pass through you, else face getting completely wrecked. – Sean Norling.
