This cooler than cool collection of lesser known moments from Aotearoa's musical underground captures a moment in time, 1971 to 1972 to be specific. A revelatory collection of lesser known acts from Pōneke and the surrounding regions, the sounds here all came from the short-lived Sonic label. Label and studio owner Alan Dunnage and producer Ed "O'Strange" Morris churned out eight stonking singles by bands like pre-Blerta outfit Littlejohn, young Māori guitar trio Blitz Street Fuzz, and plenty more with little to no current online presence such as Bluebrick, Fat Gypsy, and Sons and Lovers. Numero wishes they'd discovered these lost singles, big thanks to Frenzy for putting SONIC together! - Flying Out
WELLINGTON; Circa 1971-72. For just over a year Sonic label and studio owner Alan Dunnage and record producer Ed Morris aka O’Strange became a magnet for the Wellington and lower North Island Underground music scene. The labels output was small and included only eight singles and no albums. The legacy of those recordings is a time capsule from a fleeting moment in time when Sixties counter-culture effortlessly merged with the diverse and eclectic Seventies rock scene.
