The Birthday Party's final full-length studio album Junkyard, is some of the most influential music to come out of the post-punk renaissance of the early 1980's. The minimal, incessant melodies laced with anarchic noise create an incomparable musical experience that heralded the careers of Nick Cave, Rowland S. Howard, Mick Harvey, and Tracy Pew. The Birthday Party - led by alt-rock icon Nick Cave - was an Australian post-punk band, active from 1978 to 1983. Despite limited commercial success, The Birthday Party's influence has been far-reaching, and they have been called "one of the darkest and most challenging post-punk groups to emerge in the early '80s."
