An American rock band, formed in New York City in 1973, Television was part of the early '70s New York underground rock scene.
The 1977 debut album by Television is often considered a seminal work to come out of the New York punk scene. However, the album differs from conventional punk in its clean, textured guitar-based arrangements. Due to this aspect, it is often cited as being important to the development of post-punk and New Wave genres.
