Silver Sessions was recorded while Sonic Youth were laying down vocal overdubs for the A Thousand Leaves album, finding a release in 1998. According to Thurston Moore's liner notes the vocals were rendered impossible by some noisy overspill from a metal band in a neighbouring studio, so Sonic Youth changed their plans and cranked every amp to the max, concocting this masterpiece of extreme feedback and distorted malevolence - listen out for some barbed electronics thrown in there for good measure too.
