SCIENTIST

Scientist Wins The World Cup

Variant
King Tubby was Hopeton 'Scientist' Brown was only 16 when he started his career and mixed numerous tracks for several Jamaican producers. He became one of the household names in the dub reggae world and often considered the last of the great Jamaican dub mixers. In the early 80s Greensleeves Records put out some classic Scientist dub sets and this one comes from 1982 and features the Roots Radics as musicians and Junjo Lawes as producer. In fact it was the (in)famous Scientist/Lawes album and it used the world of soccer for the sleeve, intro's and titles. As usual producer Junjo Lawes could pick out of dozens of great vocal tunes and for this set he concentrated on Wayne Jarrett, Hugh Mundell while the bulk of tunes was originally voiced by Johnny Osbourne. The album opens with the impressive dub workout of Johnny's tune Love Is Universal. Next come two Hugh Mundell dubs : Jacqueline and Rasta Have The Handle. The next four tunes are dubs to the Johnny Osbourne tunes In Your Eyes, Over 32 Under 21, Never Stop Fighting and Give A Little Love. After Hugh Mundell's Red, Gold & Green you will hear two dubs to the Wayne Jarrett songs Bubbling and Ranny And Lou , both featured on his "Chip In" album. - reggae-vibes.com
