This self-produced album from 1983 finds Jamaican superstar Peter Tosh dreaming of Africa, incorporating African rhythms and themes into his upbeat reggae sound. The title track on Mama Africa leans in to the theme the most here, while other tunes are notable for other reasons, such as the wild reimagining of the rock'n'roll classic Johnny B. Goode and an updated take on his classic Stop That Train, which originally appeared on The Wailers' Catch A Fire. Worth a mention, too, is what AllMusic called "one of Tosh's nastier songs", the newly topical Maga Dog! - Flying Out

Mama Africa, released in 1983 and now available on recycled red vinyl, is a celebration of African heritage and a call for unity and liberation.

This album features a mix of upbeat tracks and heartfelt tributes to the African continent. The title track, Mama Africa is a poignant ode to the motherland, while songs like Glass House and Not Gonna Give It Up convey messages of resilience and determination.

Mama Africa highlights Peter Tosh's ability to blend social consciousness with melodic reggae rhythms, reaffirming his role as a powerful voice for the African diaspora and global justice.
