After wrapping filming for Joker: Folie à Deux, there was the realization that she wasn't quite ready to move on from the character that she had meticulously explored, crafted, and inhabited for so long. She began to imagine what a record would sound like through the perspective of Harley Quinn, aka Lee; finding music through the chaos of it all. Harlequin then, is the record that LG had to make. A farewell to the character, closure for Lee. In this sense, Harlequin can be viewed as a companion piece to Joker 2, but it's also more - it's LG fully realizing an artistic vision. It's 13 songs that blend Jazz, Surf-Punk, Blues, Classics into a record that feels both familiar and completely new at the same time. It's the perfect record to set the table for everything that is to come, it's a reminder that no other artist has the musical dexterity, nor the relationship with the Great American Songbook like her; no-one else can do what she does and to the level that she does it. And whilst fans eagerly wait for her return to Pop, she's still having fun chasing down her creative curiosities, and giving us LG6.5 whilst the world waits for LG7.
