The Bristol-based, Irish producer Seamus Malliagh, AKA Iglooghost, makes untethered, detailed electronic music as Iglooghost, throwing juke, footwork, punk, electronica, hip-hop, and pop into a blender and hitting infinity. His work gravitates around a fictional ecosystem of strange entities and tiny gods. Creating clothing, club nights and strange online artefacts that command avid attention from his devotees.

Tidal Memory Exo was made whilst squatting in an old MOT garage on the Kent coast, next to a sewage plant and surrounded by old strains, fumes, overcast weather and choppy seas. With his own vocals taking centre-stage for the first time and drawing inspiration from the bleak nature of his surroundings, Malliagh set about making a record with dark and sinister undertones.

Yet despite the grim vibe of the resulting productions, there is something intrinsically cartoon-like about the images and themes they conjure. Citing old Factory Records frontmen, Flying Lotus, ARCA and the metal bands of his youth as inspiration, using his own vocals felt like a natural decision. Raised by a punk loving father and taking influence from drill music and classic 90’s Warp drill & bass, the goal was a sound melding multiple genres, bleeding out of some kind of coastal radio broadcast from a fictional timeline.
