The name On-U Sound conjures a few powerful images, from their formidable dub and reggae revival in the early 80s to label boss and producer Adrian Sherwood's experiments linking that world to darker and more industrial sounds. However, unless you're a label completist, you might have missed this fascinating 2008 album that perfectly pitted UK jazz trumpeter Harry Beckett against Sherwood's deep, dubby, and explorative aural backdrop. Don't be fooled by the (no shade) fairly generic looking album cover, that's just a front for the tasty goodness hiding on the inside. - Flying Out

A long-standing figure on the London jazz scene, trumpeter Harry Beckett kept his music fresh over a long career, and none more so than on his debut On-U Sound release in 2008 produced by Adrian Sherwood, which invites reggae and dance music influences to happily live alongside his modal jazz flavours. Harry sadly passed away in 2010 but this is a fitting testament to the versatility and innate musicality of his talents.
