Drunken Nights In Dublin

12" EP (CLEAR VINYL)
Chris Thompson was an early starter making his name on the international music trail, beginning as invited backing guitarist for then folk celebrity, Julie Felix in 1971. His professional career started in 1968 and has continued to this day, having amassed 21 albums to date including this one, the first three in particular produced between 1973 and 1977, becoming rare and highly sought after psych-folk and folk cult classics. The first, the self-titled album was produced when Chris was in England, and the second two albums from earlier and some new material, after he returned back to New Zealand.

This new album, named by Chris only this year, includes arrangements of songs from each of his first three albums, interwoven with two spoken tracks telling a version of the tale, set in Egypt, of (BigglesThe Temple of Ammon (‘poetic raves’), a prose poem excerpt delivered in the style of a rap, acoustic, and four full band tracks, two of which have never before been released. The album features some outstanding musicianship of the time, with solo, group and band tracks covering a range of complementary musical styles, recorded in a party sort of atmosphere, live in the studio. Taken directly from the one and only Apple Corps (London) acetate of tracks assembled by Chris from the original first generation master tapes, the sound captures the vitality and intensity of both the music, and the times.

The album has been produced to preserve the original sound quality and integrity as accurately as possible, and working closely with the artist, presenting the album in a tailored art grade package.
