Strong in her ability to show her humanisms, there's an outright strength and beauty in Angel Olsen's open treasure chest of dynamic vocals and lyrics. 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness' is built upon Olsen's trademark style of a delicate yet assured frankness. One that perhaps wouldn't be so out of place aside a Will Oldham record. 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness' however allows us to follow Olsen's voice closely, dipping and rising over the full range of inner landscapes, often across rolling drums or confident guitar strum. These essential elements never domineering over one of the special gems of the record - Olsen's projected tones, occasionally tinged with the more accessible moments of Meredith Monk or a rawer, lower set Joni Mitchell. 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness' is well paced, pertinently poised and intimate, even in its louder more expansive moments, making this an ultimately optimistic and determined record - never fully succumbing to melancholia.
