Described by the NME, when it landed at the dawn of the 1980s, as "like Jonathan Richman trying to sound like the Velvet Underground", with other comparisons drawing lines to the likes of Television and Talking Heads. Since its release Crazy Rhythms has always been a cult favourite amongst collectors who enjoy jangles with their post-punk angles, cited by the likes of R.E.M. as an enormous influence. The band themselves have called the album a rebellion of sorts against the trappings of punk; clean guitars, memorable melodies, and playful percussion.
