One of the most influential albums of its kind from the 1980s, The Perfect Prescription was very likely also the most "under the influence" record, with Spacemen 3 making no attempt to hide their love of drugzzz at the time. By the album's release in 1987, the band - most notably formed around Peter "Sonic Boom" Kember and Jason "Spiritualized" Pierce, had lost or dropped their drummer and used the opportunity to forge a new sound, with sprawling, droning guitars and organs, psychedelic haze, and minimalist chord changes. Featuring a cover of Red Krayola's Transparent Radiation, and a nod to Lou Reed on Ode To Street Hassle, this new reissue could be just what the doctor warned you about. - Flying Out
Spacemen 3's second album is a remarkable departure from the band's 1986 debut, Sound Of Confusion. Reduced to a trio (guitarists / keyboardists Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, Jason "Spaceman" Pierce, and bassist Pete Bassman) following the departure of the first album's drummer, Spacemen 3 makes an asset out of the newfound lack of percussion, giving The Perfect Prescription a considerably less rock-oriented sound with much more open space in its varied, subtle arrangements.
