Recorded when The Rolling Stones were but young men in their 50s, this 1994 album arrived some five years after the band's last group effort. Both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had been making forays into solo album territory, and founding bassist Bill Wyman had left the group, but the four remaining members eventually headed back to the studio to record with Don Was. Was was keen to see the band return to their trademark blues rock sound, and indeed for all intents and purposes, this is a straight up and down Rolling Stones record. A 30th anniversary may seem a drop in the ocean for a band that's been at it for more than twice that time, but it's an auspicious enough occasion to revisit the album that took home the Grammy Award for best rock record at the time. - Flying Out
