We've been following Warp's Kelly Moran on Instagram and loving her solo piano tributes to Ryuichi Sakamoto lately, so it's a huge delight to hear that there's a new album of her own music on the way. Moves In The Field sees the pianist and composer duetting with none other than... the Yamaha Disklavier, a much more advanced type of self-playing piano. With this non-human counterpart engaged to write pieces beyond Moran's (or anyone's!) actual playing ability, these duets showcase what can be accomplished when we choose to run towards instead of away from modern machinery, and embrace the machinery inside us all. Do androids dream of electric pianos? - Flying Out

New York-based artist Kelly Moran unveils her second album for Warp Records, Moves in the Field. As an accomplished and highly sought-after composer, Moran has collaborated with artists such as Oneohtrix Point Never and FKA Twigs as part of their live ensembles. As a solo artist, Moran has developed a unique strand of experimental piano compositions across a critically acclaimed discography. Moves in the Field showcases duets with the Yamaha Disklavier, a technologically advanced version of a player piano. Moran augments her pianistic abilities by utilizing the Disklavier to write intricate piano parts that go beyond human capabilities, resulting in multi-layered compositions that blur the lines between human and machine. Influenced by contemporary classical, alternative, and electronic music, the album stands at a precipice above two unlikely worlds.
