The 2001 Matador release combines Esselink's collage-style approach to sampling the most peculiar sonic worlds with her dreamy vocals, offering up an infectious collection of retro-futurist gems. Low Kick and Hard Bop’ (2001) is the 3rd album by Amsterdam songwriter and one-time record store owner, Elisabeth Esselink. Here, her sampler-driven found-sound futurist style came into full stride with hooks sourced from dusty vinyl, TV, radio, and street noise. The title track builds bluesy swagger and low-end rumble via layered breaks. Matador’s 25th anniversary reissue adds long lost cut, “Mr. Crockpot.”  “A dizzying array of elements and exuberance,” wrote The Wire.
