March is promising drama, now that Anna Calvi has announced her new EP out later this month. With an unexpected and immaculate roster of collaborators - Iggy Pop, Perfume Genius, Laurie Anderson, and Matt Berninger - fans will no doubt be fizzing for this first instalment of a trilogy of records unpacking identity as metamorphosis. Well-versed in cinematic sonic masterclasses (just one listen to her Peaky Blinders soundtrack tells you all you need to know), it's clear Anna Calvi is going deeper and grander than ever. - Flying Out
Following her work scoring the final two seasons of Peaky Blinders and composing an opera with visionary director Robert Wilson, Anna Calvi returns with an EP that plays like a cinematic soundscape — a four-song film arc populated by vivid characters.
Her collaborators on this EP — Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson, Perfume Genius, Matt Berninger — all share a singularity of vision. “They share a kind of subversive honesty,” Calvi notes. “They’re not trying to please anyone. They express exactly who they are.” On this EP their voices become characters in the story, actors in the world she’s creating.
