Award-winning musician, actor, and all round legend Troy Kingi steps into new territory for the ninth time with Night Lords. Now in the closing stretch of his ambitious 10/10/10 series (10 albums, 10 genres, 10 years) Kingi turns his focus to Hip Hop / R&B, and leans on the likes of SWIDT, Diggy Dupé, Tom Scott, Melodownz, MOKOMOKAI, and MĀ for his most collaborative effort yet. Night Lords channels the pastiche of Glorious Game by El Michels Affair and Black Thought; a cohesive, groove-rich album that feels both classic and current. - Flying Out
Troy Kingi is stepping into hip-hop and R&B territory on his new album, Night Lords.
For Kingi, the shift into hip hop is both a personal and creative evolution, heavily influenced by his own love of '90s rap . Kingi says the genre has been on his mind since the beginning of his 10-album journey, and it felt like a natural progression.
The album continues Kingi’s practice of deep collaboration and documentation of genre, proving his producer skills while highlighting the strength and breadth of Aotearoa’s contemporary hip-hop and R&B scene. Stacked with heavyweight collaborators including Adam Tukiri, Brandn Shiraz, Diggy Dupē, JessB, Lucky Lance, Mā, Mareko, Melodownz, MOKOMOKAI, Rizvan, Rubi Du, SWIDT, Tipene, Tom Scott, Tyna, and US artist Charlie Bereal.
