COIL

Live One (Reissue)

FORMAT

COIL's Live One documents their landmark performance at London’s Royal Festival Hall in April 2000, part of Julian Cope’s “Cornucopea” festival. Universally regarded as their true live debut, the show featured John Balance, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra, and Ossian Brown, all clad in polar Teletubby costumes, delivering a hypnotic and transportive set.

The performance draws on the deep drones of Time Machines, but adds dynamic shifts and a sense of tension absent from that studio work. Balance’s vocal on ‘Queens of the Circulating Library’ is unusually restrained, highlighting a different side to his stage presence. Originally released in 2003 and long out of print, this historic set became the foundation for the band’s final run of tours before Balance’s death. Fully overseen by Thighpaulsandra, Live One remains a definitive document of the COIL live experience.
