Sentimental Noise is the final chapter in a four-part series of albums, art and creative endeavours conceived in celebration of the record label's 25th Anniversary. All year long, each instalment of Jag Quarterly has resurrected a different mantra from Jagjaguwar's past and imbued it with new meaning, showing how the label's story is not about individuals or specific releases in its catalogue, but rather the ensuing worlds that are built through sharing and collaborating, creating art and community, and growing towards the future together. The record uncovers new and unreleased music from some of the label's earliest friends, such as Drunk and Manishevitz, plus Jagjaguwar legends like Wilderness, Oneida and Bloomington post-rock heroes Tammar, special contributions from Jenny Hval, the mysterious noise mongers of Canada's Wold/Fauchion and Oslo's Some Nerve, and two loving tributes to the Patron Saint of Jagjaguwar, John Prine, including a cover of "Blue Umbrella" by Bevel and an original song by Charlotte, NC's Zodiac Lovers. Bookending the LP are two unearthed songs from Atsushi Miura, the man who first allowed Jagjaguwar founder Darius Van Arman to book shows in the basement of his sushi restaurant in Charlottesville, VA.
