The Coroner's Gambit (Reissue) (Vinyl LP)
The fifth album from prolific indie act The Mountain Goats arrived at the turn of the new millenium, but was about as far a cry from a party record as it gets. A stripped back affair, The Coroner's Gambit was essentially just John Darnielle and an acoustic guitar, recorded on a four track and an RX-FT500 boombox. The record featured a number of songs about and for Rozz Williams, the founder of goth pioneers Christian Death who took his own life in 1998. Long out-of-print and sought out by fans, The Coroner's Gambit finally gets its moment again, with a reissue due out at the end of June. - Flying Out
The album long sought after by Mountain Goats fans is finally back in print and features new liner notes by John Darnielle. Released on the precipice of the Mountain Goats’ breakout albums All Hail West Texas and Tallahassee, The Coroner’s Gambit is an introspective epic that stands as one of Darnielle’s best outings in any era.
