"It was, it is, and it looks likely to always be an enjoyable listen. The Frantic, funny, smart and impulsive pseudo-debut from Parquet Courts marked a huge shift in my musical trajectory, opening up the floodgates to contemporary acts instead of the ol'reliables I had leant on for years. A standout act among my handful of experiences at the Kings Arms before they're closure and an album that quickly became a landmark of the era’s independent rock landscape. An absolute firecracker to this day." - Hunter Ah yes, many moons ago Parquet Courts burst onto the scene with a potential unlike any band at the time. Their debut Light Up Gold, packed with jagged, witty American post-punk, kick-started a following that saw A. Savage and Austin Brown quickly sitting amongst the most promising of NYC's guitar scene. The understated follow-up, Tally All The Things That You Broke continued that off-kilter charm with 5 tracks of head-banging, fever-flavoured hooliganism, drawing attention from DIY garage-punk fans worldwide. Fast-forward to now, these two cult-favourites are being reissued on classic black wax thanks to Rough Trade. You're welcome. - Flying Out Light Up Gold is a dynamic and diverse foray into the back alleys of the American DIY underground. Bright guitars swirl over looping, groovy post-punk bass lines and drums that border on robotic precision. While the initial rawness of the band's early output remains, the songwriting has gracefully evolved. Recorded over a few days in an ice-box practice space, Light Up Gold is equally indebted to The Modern Lovers, the Fall and The Feelies as well as a slew of contemporaries like Tyvek and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
