FLYING OUT'S #10 ALBUM OF 2024:
Award-winning songwriter Mel Parsons’ Sabotage is a stunner. A beautifully raw exploration of hope, sadness, and reflection through alt-country and indie folk. It's absolutely gorgeous stuff, with our people's champion of folk laying her heart out for all to hear. Equal parts hopeful and sad, with plenty of dry wit to boot.
Four months on and not a week goes by without me having a re-listen, a real bundle of emotions with equal part's of hope and sadness and plenty of wry wit to boot. - Matthew.
Sabotage is the Lyttleton-based artist’s sixth album and fans have already been given a sneak peak of the record, by way of the singles ‘Little Sadness’ and ‘Offer Down’. The album, recorded in Lyttleton at Basement Studio and co-written and co-produced with Josh Logan, sees a contemplative Parsons skillfully weaving together a tapestry of ethereal and hypnotic soundscapes. The songs are raw, and at times dark – perhaps a reflection of the time in which they started to emerge.
