Chicago's finger-picking legend, artist, and frequent collaborator Bill McKay is back with another Drag City diamond; introducing the new album Locust Land. Whereas recent albums have been well and truly lonesome affairs, this new record finds McKay inviting a bunch of pals along to augment his rollicking, rolling sound with percussive, occasionally rocking goodness. Despite having been a musician since the age of 6, this new outing somehow finds our hero with a renewed sense of confidence, stepping up to take on more vocal duties, and even throwing some keys into the mix. - Flying Out
Rolling and tumbling in his own sweet way, guitarist Bill MacKay discovers a territory all his own: Locust Land. New vistas abound: Bill adds a measure of keyboard playing to his picking mastery, sings a few more, and, a devout and ceaseless collaborator, features a few other players (Sam Wagster, Mikel Patrick Avery and Janet Beveridge Bean). Whether played solo or with companions, Bill’s music projects the strength of the universal collective.
