Rock'n'roll Hell

VINYL LP

LEVITATING CHURCHES, the Melbourne based rok pack of the last eight years, led by NZ ex-pat Matt Alien, return with a third full length LP & another clutch of joyous rollin’ 70s drenched power trio hard rock. As always herein lies the effect of two prime Matt Alien inspirations, ROKY Erickson & Fred Cole, the former, in taking stock from Roky’s late 1970s/early 1980s, Alien’s/Explosives catalogue, and the latter, in Mr Cole’s psych rock Zeppelin-esque turn in Zipper, tho’ Dead Moon is a big passion also for this lot...chuck in a buncha other references/tips o’the hat to James Gang/MC5, early Aerosmith/Judas Priest, Hellacopters and UFO...the LP opens with chug, stab and glam tribal elements in the first three tunes, “Honour Roll”, “Rock & Roll Hell”, and “Not Everybody’s Cup o’Tea”....things deviate into lonely incidental jam, piano ramble on “Back From the States”, instrumental psych surf stun and shimmer chunk with “Goliath”, power balladry in “Vodka and Lime” and “Onward Crystal Soldiers”....and departs with a slice of Matt Alien past, the ole Hi-Tone Destroyers staple “Go Down or Go Home”...
