For centuries, mercy, love, forgiveness, and communion have been at the heart of the sacred prayers uttered in the hallowed halls of the Anglican church. Fast forward to 2021, and have mercy, The Fuzzy Robes are here to drag those beautiful prayers into this psychedelic new era.
Exactly who The Fuzzy Robes are remains as shrouded in mystery as the meaning of life itself. What we do know, however, is that a couple of years ago, in the depths of an Ōtautahi winter, a group of musicians began a process of liturgical looting. They were tasked with creating a musical setting for excerpts from A New Zealand Prayer Book, He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa that would give the words meaning for a new wave of lost lambs.
Recorded in secret over ten fevered wintry days and nights in remote chapels around the South Island, Night Prayers is finally ready to be unveiled. Those few who have heard the finished results have reported feeling waves of calm, peace, awe, and trancelike joy. We think this is something very special, something unexpected, something - perhaps - not of this world.
