The first album R.E.M. was to release without long-time drummer Bill Berry was always going to be a different affair, and a tough one for the band. With Up, however, they pulled it off, and now the record is getting a 25th anniversary re-appraisal. Partly out of necessity, partly because they'd always been innovating and reinventing, R.E.M. went down a more electronic route for this one, although the essence of their them-ness was still very much evident. Tunes like Daysleeper, Lotus, Suspicion and At My Most Beautiful sound better than ever, and on this 180 gram reissue, they sound better still. - Flying Out
Released in 1998, Up is the eleventh studio album from R.E.M.
The album, featuring the singles Daysleeper, Lotus, Suspicion and At My Most Beautiful, draws inspiration from electronic music, using a wide range of tools to create a dreamy pop landscape that is reflective and moody.
This special pressing—replicating the original package— offers the newly remastered album across 2-LPs, pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
