Whereas the original album featured a dream cast of vocal collaborators, this project places the masterful arrangements, electronics and musicianship at the forefront – allowing FlyLo’s inimitable beats and well versed jazz heritage to take centre stage. Flying Lotus – the bandleader – bringing a nexus of generation-defining Los Angeles players – Ellison himself on keys and machines, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Brandon Coleman, Justin Brown, Dennis Hamm, Taylor Graves, Ronald Bruner, Herbie Hancock, Deantoni Parks and Robert Glasper – into his transcendent vision.
The dazzling harmonies, melodies, textures and tones shine even brighter than they did in the vocal mixes.
