A pioneer can be described as ‘a person who is among the first to explore’ or ‘ be the first to use or apply a new method or technique’. Daimon Schwalger, aka The Nomad, firmly fits the bill as a pioneer of the electronica music scene in Aotearoa - New Zealand. Since his first album release ‘Movement’ in 1998, he has gone on to release seven full length albums, remix albums and various singles.
Those tracks map the progression of Aotearoa’s electronic music scene, as it gathered steam toward the mature, diverse and richly talented scene of today. The Nomad’s own experiences from the early days, featuring at the infamous The Gathering festivals, his own maturation as a musician and father, through to his more recent success as a videographer capturing the beauty of Aotearoa’s West Coast are reflected in this compendium of his best work.
“The nomadic traveller working on beats all day” has compiled an impressive body of work, which features collaborations with many different artists and musicians from New Zealand, Australia, UK and Jamaica. Artists include; Barnaby Weir (Black Seeds), MC Antsman (The Nomad/Rhombus), Tehimana Kerr (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Pearl Runga, Tiki Taane, Opiuo, King Kapisi, Farda P (Rockers HiFi), Luciano, Lisa Tomlins, Oakley Grenell (O.G.), Dexta Malawi, Ras Stone and many more.
