Yep, 25 years. Navigator, the album that cemented Che Fu's place as one of Aotearoa’s most celebrated artists. Featuring The Krates, an Avengers level collective of long‑time collaborators: Chip Matthews, Paul Russell (Supergroove), Brother Zeb, James Levi (12 Tribes of Israel), the Villajah MCs (Hazadus, Ras Daan, Phatmospheric), Godfrey de Grut (The New Loungehead) and turntablist P‑Money, Che and crew forged a sound that blended soul, hip‑hop, R&B and Pacific roots with effortless clarity. It debuted at No.1, went triple platinum, swept the awards season and gave us instant classics like Fade Away and Misty Frequencies. Landmark album would be putting it lightly. - Flying Out
When Che Fu dropped his second album in 2001 he brought forth tracks that would go on to become Kiwi classics. With Navigator, Che took hip hop to the masses, crossing genres and mixing Polynesian sounds with reggae, hip hop and soul. On its release the album debuted at number one in the New Zealand charts and stayed in the top 50 for just over a year.
