Following her 2024 Aotearoa Music Award win for Best Electronic Artist (Te Manu Taki Tāhiko o te Tau), Amamelia returns with The Joy Of Living, out April 17 via our friends at Sunreturn. The Tāmaki Makaurau conqueror has carved out a colourful electronic world and with LP3 they're leaning into that playful spirit fully. Featuring contributions from Madison van Staden, Carla Camilleri ((cc)tv), Moe McGlashan, ex Flying Out-er Hannah Renwick and Baby Zionov, The Joy Of Living is exactly what its title promises. - Flying Out
Amamelia is the musical project of Amelia Berry (she/her), a musician and songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) who is currently based in Naarm (Melbourne). Her debut WOW! was shortlisted for the Best Independent Debut award at the 2021 Taite Music Prize and Berry took home the Favourite Solo Act Award later that year at the inaugural Student Radio Network Awards. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences, including Yellow Magic Orchestra, Virginia Astley, and LTJ Bukem, Amamelia’s second album Bananamelia! led her to win Te Manu Taki Tāhiko o te Tau (Best Electronic Artist) at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards. In 2026 Amamelia announces her new album The Joy Of Living will be released on April 17 on Vinyl LP and digital formats. Award winning electronic composer Amamelia invites listeners to take a deep breath, be present and appreciate the never ending cycle of life & death. The album is a joyous cacophony of big squelchy synth melodies (like the ones you’d find on a junk-shop Moog record) boops, beeps, echoes, delays, fuzzed out guitar solos and field recordings. The Joy Of Living features appearances from Amamelia’s frequent collaborator Madison van Staden (Van Staden & Bohm, Yarn) along with Carla Camilleri ((cc)tv), Moe McGlashan (Bandicoot, FIMO), Hannah Renwick plus Sunreturn label mate Baby Zionov.
Let The Joy Of Living remind you of the feeling of the warm sun on your face, the smell of fresh cut grass and the love of friends and family.
