Flying Out is pleased to be stocking the new Carnivorous Plant Society album on CD. For those who like jazzy reto-futuristic spaghetti mexi-western trumpetey vibey grooves then this is for you! Get your copy here, and check their marathon New Zealand tour dates below.
‘Phantom Finger’ is a heady mix of strange creatures and fierce humanity drawn from the mind of band-leader Finn Scholes. Eclectic but focussed, the seven compositions progress with a satisfying vigour while allowing for pit stops at the edge of the universe they have created.
Over the past few years the Auckland quintet has refined their sound and approach in a variety of settings, supporting Tiny Ruins on tour and collaborating with Lawrence Arabia to create a live score at the New Zealand International Film Festival.
In 2013 they released their self-titled album and since then they have released via soundcloud a number of audio book style stories written and scored by Finn Scholes.
The band’s visual aesthetic has evolved along with their sound, resulting in a collection of animated videos that accompany the songs live as well as online. When experienced together, the songs abound with a joyous energy sprung from instrumental dexterity and an enthusiasm for the bizarre, while the images persist in the imagination long after they are out of sight.
Recorded and mixed with engineer Tom Healy, ‘Phantom Finger’ builds on the complex mythology of the group’s previous outing.
