The final title, Superette - Tiger, has been announced as part of the Flying Nun Records - 90s Nun Re-Issue Series.
Formed in 1993 when David Mulcahy (Jean Paul Sartre Experience) teamed up with Ben Howe and Greta Anderson. With a penchant for animal-themed titles, the Auckland trio first displayed their artful sweet’n’dirty musings by way of their debut EP Rosepig. This was followed a year later with their debut album Tiger, produced by Nick Roughan (Skeptics) it featured 12 tracks of languid, dark and at times lilting kiwi-pop.
With a perfect balance of rock riffs and pop hooks, Tiger grabs you immediately and shakes you round. But it’s far from straight up chords and drums, and for every guitar driven track such as Saskatchewan, there’s plenty of delicate pop (Touch Me) and beautiful melancholy (Killer Clown). While, Superette - Tiger is one of the masterpieces of Flying Nun’s 90s catalogue, the proposed re-issue did take a bit of work convincing Flying Nun Records senior management, but we are glad we have.
Pre-Order/Crowd-Fund the new Superette - Tiger HERE
With only a limited number of vinyl LPs originally realised, Superette - Tiger is part of our new Re-Issue Club (or Ric as we sometimes call it) with pre-orders now available for an extended double LP edition featuring bonus tracks from the Rosepig EP as well as material from their never released second album.
The first episode of the club features FOUR crowd funded Flying Nun vinyl re-issue projects, which also include the Headless Chickens - Body Blow, Garageland - More Exits To Garageland and the self-titled album from Bressa Creeting Cake. As well as pre-ordering them individually, they are also available as a special discounted bundle.
Unlike most of the recent Flying Nun reissues - all four of these albums were originally released during the 1990s, with Bressa Creeting Cake never before released on vinyl. The albums will all be double LPs with plenty of B-sides, out-takes and previously unreleased bonus material. Once we have 100 pre-orders of each album, Flying Nun will put them into production.
And the winner of the competition for all four Re-Issue Club Episode 1: "90s Nun" LPs who guessed all four reissues correctly is...
