And with pre-orders going well (only 30 left to reach the target) we are all hoping it will be transformed into a glorious 12" LP cover. Which got us thinking about other great album covers on vinyl LP, and asked Grayson to share five of his favourites...
Ever since my teens, when I bought an Op-Shop copy of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene because of it's cover, I've been a sucker for LP sleeve art...
So, upon the imminent release of Infinite Life!, featuring artwork by the most excellent Henreitta Harris, here are a few LPs from my collection that continue to wow my eyes.
1. PATEA MAORI CLUB - Aku Raukura. Cover by ???
Maui of the future riding a robot waka... what's not to like!? Who drew this, and is there more work out there like it?
2. TALL DWARFS - Slug Bucket. Cover by Chris Knox.
Blue Note LPs are some of the most aesthetically pleasing covers out there... photo, type, colour, layout, perfect.
4. BECK - Midnite Vultures. Cover by Yamataka Eye.
To me this cover not only looks, but sounds like YMO, oddly caught in some past-future tense of its own!
And in case you haven't seen Grayson's new cover....
