When I say "I'm in love you best believe I'm in love L.U.V.
Not only does the 14th of February mark the release of Season Two of House Of Cards, it's the day after Galentines Day and it's Valentines Day. Most companies will try to pressure you into buying watches, chocolates or lingerie, but here at Flying Out we will do what we have been doing for the past 27 newsletters - try to peer pressure you into buying LP's, CDs, tapes and various merchandise.
This week we have new releases from Young Hellions, Grayson Gilmour plus news about The Verlaines, Neko Case and more.
RELEASE OF THE WEEK
The self-titled eponymous release from Young Hellions is self described as; 'a haphazard experiment in creating a bigger sound – in four parts.' After locking herself away for months and developing a cabin fever mentality, Maeve Munro (Cat Venom, The Bengal Lights) has emerged with four tracks melded with layers of synths, guitar and reverb. It’s homemade shoegaze with a fuzzy, rough-around-the-edges charm – perfectly imperfect and released on Muzai Records. Click to stream and or download Young Hellions EP from Flying Out.
To show Dunedin how it's done, the original cast of The Verlaines will perform Hallelujah All The Way Home in it's entirety this Saturday at Sammy's. Coming off the back of last years re-issues, The Verlaines have shown their debut album is still as visceral and intelligent 29 years after it's release. With support from The Puddle, The Shifting Sands and Tiny Pieces of Eight, there is even a matinee show for those who are afraid of the dark. Get your tickets from UTR and tool up over at Flying Out.
