You've probably listened to Spaceman 3, My Bloody Valentine, maybe even a little Bailterspace or Snapper. Maybe you've dabbled a little in The Jesus and Mary Chain, checked out Swervedriver and these days you listen to Moon Duo. But have you ever listened to LoOp?
If not, I think you probably should.
If you like droney psychedelic kraut influenced hypnosis, a little bit gnarly and discordant around the edges, then I think you definitely should.
For those of us living down in New Zealand I don't expect too many of their albums would have made it down in the 1980s. They were released on a small UK indies Chapter 22 and Situation Two (a Beggars banquet side label). I am sure the odd intrepid listener tracked them down, or bought some records home with them after an overseas trip. But not many.
The band was formed in London in 1986 by Robert Hampson. They released three studio albums proper, Heaven's End (1987) Fade Out (1989) and A Gilded Eternity (1990). The first two have been reissued on vinyl, Fade Out as a double 45rpm album. According their their website A Gilded Eternity will be reissued in December 2013. All three are good records.
Just this year the band reformed and played their first show in 22 years. They also curated the last ATP Festival.
