Melbourne pop foursome Twerps are excited to announce the release of second album Range Anxiety.

Formed in Melbourne in late 2008, Twerps enjoyed immediate success, releasing a series of vinyl singles and cassettes on labels around the world. Their 2011 self-titled debut album was recorded with producer Jack Farley at Head Gap, marking the band’s first foray into a real recording studio. The release of Twerps led to three US trips, including appearances at SXSW, CMJ and a tour with Real Estate, while at home they played Meredith and Laneway Festivals and toured with Mac DeMarco.

Not wanting to wait until 2015 to unleash new songs on present and future fans, Twerps released the self-recorded Underlay EP in August this year, described by Pitchfork as “songs fraught with universal, emotionally familiar sentiments.”

The title of Twerps’ second full-length album, also recorded with Jack Farley, refers to a debilitating fear of running out of gas. As singer- guitarist Julia McFarlane explains, “The title Range Anxiety is both descriptive and comic. The album at times feels like it was built on uncertainties; some purely practical and some emotional obstacles were present around the start of writing.”

Twerps is a band that has always worked and thrived on a precarious balance of moods and co-operation. Alex Macfarlane joined the band in early 2013, replacing original drummer Patrick O’Neill. The new line up has seen the band refine their mode of operating in an intuitive way.

Range Anxiety is an expansive showcase of the creativity, vitality and intuition Twerps bring to their music.

"Even at their most technically complex, Twerps still maintain a low-key, laidback, indie-rock appeal. They pull off charming pop that sounds tender and thrilling at the same time. On “Back to You” Frawley sings “somebody out there is doing better than me”; when it comes to this kind of pop music, nobody right now is doing it better than Twerps." Paste Magazine
